Chesapeake Bay - December Zen Kayak Sunrise
4k clip of relaxing zen. December sunrise on the Chesapeake Bay with friends. This is the second version of the video which uses more effective warp-stablilization FX passes in After Effects to reduce handheld shake on the Galaxy S8 smartphone. Check out the accompanying blog post here which details camera-shake removal.
Big Chesapeake Bay Rockfish
We reached back into the archives to assemble a clip of a personal-best Chesapeake Bay rockfish from the spring of '16. It was a messy, sloppy, rainy day and GoPro batteries were draining fast. Good friend and kayak fisherman extraordinaire John Hostalka saved the day though with some expert photography. Looking forward to one day eclipsing the 44" rockfish mark, and this time with plenty of camera power to spare.
Lowcountry Speckled Trout
Here's a quick Pawleys Island clip from a pre-Thanksgiving 2017 lowcountry outing. Pawleys has some super skinny water with healthy, aggressive speckled trout. This one gave the Shimano Ci4+ drag a fun workout.
Chesapeake Bay 2017 - Late Summer Redfish
Here's footage from a late evening September 2017 outing. It was near low tide on an expansive lower Maryland Chesapeake Bay grass flat (western shore). The 22-26" redfish were roaming in large, hungry packs. Numerous catches were the result of sight casting towards fleeing baitfish breaking the surface.
Chesapeake Bay - Rocks & Reds, August 2017
Here's a Chesapeake Bay outing from late August 2017. The location was lower Maryland on the western shore. The schoolie rockfish action was fast and furious, with a bonus visit from a couple of very nice redfish. This was the first outing with the Torqeedo Evolve drive, and it was also the inaugural trip with a custom St.Croix Rods from the talented Brandon Jessup. That rod has some fine mojo and will be treasured for many years to come!
Potomac Backwaters in 4K, June 2017
A big truck, a plastic boat, a drone, some GoPros, and a few feisty Potomac River fish.
Chesapeake Bay 2017 - Spring Rockfish Run in 4K
It was a fine maiden voyage in the new Hobie Pro Angler with non-stop rockfish double hookups. All were released to move on with their Chesapeake migration. Countless schoolies were landed, as well as a beast that went just shy of 42".
Chesapeake Bay 2014 - November rockfish at Beverly Triton Beach
A morning of nonstop schooling rockfish at Beverly Triton Beach in Edgewater, Maryland.
The Hunt for Reds in October
Here's a video short from an epic kayak fishing outing with good friends on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The redfish tended to be in the upper end of the slot size from 24-30 inches. At times we encountered roaming schools of 50+ fish in only a few feet of water.
Murrells Inlet 2014 - Late Summer Redfish
Kayak fishing Murrells Inlet, South Carolina in late August -- the inlet was full of bait fish so hookups with artificials was a challenge. On the final evening I landed a personal best 32" redfish. It's worth adding that I'm always struck by the friendliness of fellow MI kayak anglers. Most are always happy to say hi, compare notes, and swap information. Southern hospitality at its finest.
